McCain re-boards straight-talk express in Palin's limelight.

Palin is a good political gamble for McCain.  Her narrative steals the media focus.  Her image is a constant reminder of the lack of a Democrat dream ticket.  Arguments against her beg similar rehashing of Obama's past.  But most importantly, in my opinion, her choice frees McCain by allowing him to move his message back to maverick centrist, with substantially less likelihood of loosing his conservative base.

People vote for the President not the Vice President, and candidates are the most effective and persuasive when they can be themselves.  McCain, as the maverick centrist, is an established, resonating perception, with which he relishes and under which he thrives.

Palin's presence on the ticket brings the limelight and allows McCain to once again to board the `straight-talk express'.

Voting with Bush >90% of the time (none / 0)

means that McCain is totally off the straight-talk express.

I agree with the Pennsylvania senator who said that McCain isn't a maverick, he's a side-kick.

McCain will only be a third term for Bush.

Re: McCain isn't a maverick? (none / 0)

Elections are as much about perception as reality.  The focus and narrative resulting in McCain's pick of Palin haschanged dramatically.

Re: McCain re-boards straight-talk (2.00 / 1)

Old man McBush proves that he is not puttin america first by choosing someone who we americans would not want to be in charge of our country.  Palin is a conservative who wants to drill oil anywhere, maybe under your house.  She is in cahoots with big oil, and doesn't even think about alternative energy, and who would take every endangered animal off that list.  She is not for women's right to choose, and would appoint the same conservative judges as old man McBush.  It is very scary that old man McBush would jeapardize the country with his VP pick.  Old man McBush put his political aspiratins over country first.

Re: McCain re-boards straight-talk express in Pali (2.00 / 2)

Back on the straight talk express? Surely you jest.

Sarah Palin is a choice not for her leadership qualities, her foreign policy expertise, her economic expertise, her energy expertise, unless it's drill here drill now.

She was bought on strictly to do what it is doing create a stir. For a job that MCain has low regard for.

John McCain has a low opinion of the vice presidency, which he's frequently described as a job that involves attending funerals and checking on the health of the president.

So in my opinion he hasn't brought on a partner, but somebody he looks at as a glorified handmaiden.

If this is what women believe is shattering through the 18 million cracks created by Hillary. Then we really deserve the government we will get under McCain/Palin.

And tomorrow those headlines will be used to wrap fish. This pick will only get positive head lines through the weekend, then the head lines will change over to what's in her closet. But do tell us how many McCain points you get for this cheerleading diary?

Repeating something doesn't make it true. Face it your guy just stepped in it and the stink will linger for weeks to come.

Who said McCain is or isn't my guy?  This diary is a commentary on interesting political events, and not an endorsement of either candidate.

Your comment, ironically, supports my own.  The political focus has changed to the McCain candidacy.  Does he need to step up and further connect to voters; absolutely.  The change is that the Democratic convention buzz didn't even last a day, nor deprive the Republican campaign of any oxygen.  The change is that the McCain campaign is now free to veer further from its base to try and attract the undecided voters in the critical swing counties of the swing states.  The change is the media's use of the word "bold".

Politics is a competition and the McCain campaign has changed the rules just as the Obama campaign was controlling the board.
